The Aspire One 110 is a good net-book, but it's slow. Specially with very hungry applications like Web Browsers. So I'm looking for the best browser to use with “piccoletto”.

My AspireOne has 1GB of RAM and run Ubuntu 9.04 Netbook Remix

I've chosen three Browser and I've performed some tests on them, the browser I've are checke are the following:

  • Google Chrome 4.0.223.11
  • Firefox-3.5         3.5.5pre
  • Opera                 10.00

I've performed some tests and you can see the results in the following table:

  Chrome Firefox Opera
First Boot time 2 19 7
Boot time average 1,25 8 4,75
Shutdown Time 2 10 4
Browser security test Ok Ok Ok
Test rendering time 9,16 37,38 16,89
Acid3 100/100 93/100 100/100

Google Chrome is the best browser for the performance tests, and it conforms completely to the Acid3 Test and meets all the requirements to pass the Browser security test. Also Opera 10.00 has good performances and meets all the requirements to pass Browser security test and Acid3 Test, but the look and feel of chrome for me is better. Firefox-3.5 seems to be the worst browser of the three.

You can perform the tests following these links:

Browser's in the real world.

In the real world the situation is a little bit different because Chrome and Opera could not compete with Firefox.
I'm experiencing problems when I want to see youtube videos, with chrome and opera the videos are going slow and they freezes frequently.
With Google Chrome I've a problem with Statpress SEOlution plugin for WordPress, when I click on the Statpress link I'm redirected to the login page and I cannot login again…..
With Opera 10.00 I cannot use Facebook with success, often the links in the homepage doesn't work fine so I need to right-click on them an to chose “open link in a new tab”.

Conclusions
Now I'm using Google chrome as my predefined browser, but I cannot remove Firefox. So, for me, the classification is the following:

  1. Google Chrome
  2. Firefox-3.5
  3. Opera 10.00
