With the following script you can install Firefox (version 3.5  or version 3.6)  on your ubuntu box.

I have checked this script on ubuntu 8.10 umpc, Ubuntu 8.10 and Ubuntu 9.04. This script should also work with Ubuntu 9.10, If you use this script to install Firefox3.5/6 on Ubuntu 9.10 please leave a comment to this post.

Ubuntu 8.04/8.10: Headphones doesn’t work on Sony Vaio SZ71E

June 28th, 2009 gg1 No comments

On the VAIO SZ71E/B with Ubuntu 8.04 or Ubuntu 8.10 the headphones/earphones doesn’t work. If you insert your headphones into the headphones jack Ubuntu ignores them and the sound continues to play exclusively through the speakers.

To solve this bug:

  • edit the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

# sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

The version of Evolution in  Ubuntu 8.10 is not totally compatible with the version installed with Ubuntu 9.04 and when I imported my mails I received the following message:

How to fix Ubuntu Hardy’s xargs bug: Assertion ‘bc_ctl.arg_max <= (131072-2048)’ failed.

In Ubuntu/Hardy you could have this error using xargs, this error is due to the findutils package. To solve this problem you could take the package from the Ubuntu release Intrepid.
